For baseball fans relishing last year's championship seasons by the Quad Cities River Bandits and their parent club, the St. Louis Cardinals, celebration and anticipation were themes of the Cardinals' annual caravan stop in Davenport on Monday.
After hitting .310 with 22 homers in his first full season as a pro for Class A Quad Cities in 2010, Cardinals' first base prospect Matt Adams skipped a level to Double-A Springfield in 2011. The move more than paid off as the Slippery Rock product was named Texas League Player of the Year.
The River Bandits will have a new field general in 2012 when they take the field for the first time on April 5. Luis Aguayo will bring his Major League experience with him to the Quad Cities as he takes over as the new field manager for the Bandits as they look to defend their Midwest League crown.
The River Bandits 2012 schedule is now official, complete with game times. The team's defense of its Midwest League Championship will begin at home on the first Thirst-Day Thursday of the season, April 5, with a 7 p.m. start against the Kane County Cougars.
